Dental Insurance "Accepting and Participating" plans: WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
Recent changes to our United Concordia Company Participation agreement may affect other insurance companies. United Concordia has offered its "discounted" fee schedule to other insurance companies such as BlueCross BlueShield, Assurant, Lincoln Financial, Companion Life, Principal Life and many others. Although your dental benefits may be managed through these companies, they choose to participate with United Concordia's discounted fee schedule for their payment amounts to dental offices. We are choosing not to participate with United Concordia any longer as we have no control over who now is using their discounted fee schedule. If your dental management company has chosen to particpate with a lower payment schedule from another company like United Concordia, we may not be considered "In Network" any longer. Because of this new cost saving direction they have discovered, you may be persuaded by them to only go to a "participating" United Concordia dental office. This is not a true statement from BCBS and in fact, your BCBS policy may not be affected by this change at all. Before taking action to automatically change dental offices, please check with our office to review which plans will be affected and which will see no change.
"Accepting" an insurance plan and "Participating" with an insurance company's internal fee schedule are two different relationships. "Accepting" most traditional insurance plans means submitting all dental claims to your insurance and processing their payment to your ledger. This usually means the office is "Out-Of-Network" for a dental plan. Any remaining balance is the patient's responsibility and is due at the time services are provided. "Participating" with an insurance plan means the dental office has signed a contract with that specific company to be "In-Network" with their plan. Both claims are submitted similarly but insurance company "regulations" regarding those claims are very different. With your help, we can review your current plan and help estimate any cost to you. Dental benefit plans change yearly so please contact our office to verify your plan and for any other questions you may have regarding your treatment and insurance benefits. Please see additional insurance information below.
Dental Insurance Coverages:
Your insurance coverage is based on a contract between your employer and a dental insurance company, and not with your dental office. The goal of most dental insurance policies is to provide basic care for specific dental services and it can be a big help or benefit to the patient when it "works like you think it should work." The benefits that you receive from the dental insurance company may have little to do with your individual needs or achieving a high-quality, complete result-- Many needed services may not be covered. Our office will do everything possible to help you understand and make the most of your dental insurance benefits but please remember.....we treat our patients' needs not the insurance companys' needs. As a courtesy, we can complete and submit your insurance forms to achieve the maximum reimbursement to which you are entitled. Please remember that employers can and do negotiate changes in your benefits on a yearly basis and do not inform the dental offices. Therefore, your employer’s Human Resource department and the "booklets" they provide will have the latest information and can provide the ultimate answer to your questions. We urge you to read your policy so that you are fully aware of coverage and any limitations of the benefits provided. Because you are the subscriber, benefit information is always available directly to you at their subscriber help line. Please be aware of your insurance company's statement:: "Any information provided is not a guarantee of payment." Benefit payment is actually based on treatment, date of service, benefits available on that date-of-service, time restrictions, and other contract guidelines"!!!
We accept checks, cash and credit cards such as Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discovery, and CareCredit. We also offer payments divided equally among scheduled appointments. Please call our office for details.
It is customary to pay for dental treatment at the time of service. Our business staff will estimate the patient’s portion for each procedure based upon information provided by the patient or by your insurance company. This patient amount will be expected at the time the dental procedure is completed. Any expected amounts are estimates only until actual payment by your benefit plan is received and could vary according to that plan. Any portion of the procedure not paid by the insurance company will be the patient’s responsibility and a final statement will be mailed if needed. Our office currently offers several different payment options including payment by cash, check, Visa/Mastercard, American Express, Discovery, and CareCredit Card. We are committed to providing excellent dental care and helping patients in choosing the best payment option for their individual needs.
